Em hr, thanks for posting that code. Being a newbie, it took me a while to wrap my head around it. I got the horizontal menu to work beautifully, but I couldn't get the current page to "stay put" as grausc01 requested. In the default styling link you provided, I found this, which makes the current page link go bold:

.sf-navbar li li.current > a {
	font-weight:	bold;
}

I switched mine to make it highlight in grey instead of bold and voila! It works!

.sf-navbar li li.current > a {
	color: #666;
}

Thanks!

Hi Guys

Very helpful post

I am trying to use this too, and the dropdown works.

But it also drops the element next to the ancestor with children in. Any idea what might be causing it?

Thanks!

Thank you!!!

This is exactly what I was looking for... :-)

After implementation seems there is a conflict between menu.js and the "thematic-dropdowns.js" file which is called in line 325 of "header-extensions.php":

$dropdown_options = $scriptdir_start . 'thematic-dropdowns.js' . $scriptdir_end . "\n";

How can I remove the call to "thematic-dropdowns.js" from my own functions.php file?

Chris shows how to do this with a preg-replace: http://programming.thematic4you.com/2010/03/how-to-test-wp_nav_menu-with-thematic/

I just rebuild the action rather than filtering it:

// Remove #access

function remove_thematic_actions() {
 remove_action('thematic_header','thematic_access',9);
	}

add_action('init','remove_thematic_actions');

// Enable WordPress 3.0 Menus

if ( function_exists( 'add_theme_support' ) ) {

	// This theme uses wp_nav_menu()
	add_theme_support( 'menus' );

// Rebuild #access with new classes and args

Hello!

I need to implement this menu in a WP3 site with Thematic:

http://www.i-marco.nl/weblog/jquery-accordion-3/

What I really want is not to change anything in the thematic framework files so I suppose I must:

1. Let my child theme to use the wp_nav_menu from my own functions.php file:

add_theme_support( 'menus' );
function child_access_menu() {
	$menu_sys = 'wp_nav_menu';
	return $menu_sys;
}
add_filter('thematic_menu_type', 'child_access_menu');

2. Add CSS code to CSS file.

3. Call the JS file from my functions.php file of my custom thematic child theme:

function load_my_menu() {
	if ( !is_admin() ) // instruction to only load if it is not the admin area
 wp_enqueue_script( 'menu', get_stylesheet_directory_uri() . '/js/menu.js', false, 0.1 );
}
add_action( 'template_redirect', 'load_my_menu' );

4. Change/add to the generated html markup the needed classes and here is where I'm lost. I can change some lines of code in header-extensions.php file, but I don't want my menu stop working when a upgrade it's done.

How can I change/add the needed classes?

4a. Change
to
.
4b.
in secondary level.

Thank you very much for your assistance! :-)

My question now is this: should I build it on thematic, which i really like, or would it be better to start with buddymatic. I have heard that there are plans for thematic to support buddypress. I am wondering when this feature will be ready and if it will be easy to upgrade to this functionality ? Maybe I should just wait until it is ready and wp 3.0 is out as well. I guess that would be the smartest thing to do, but i'm just burning to get on with the project. Any thoughts or advice on this would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

if you mean the 'depth' thing:

There is an undocumented parameter 'depth' in wp_nav_menu => wp-includes/nav-menu-template.php

Hello!

This is exactly what I am looking for...

Also seems that in this page is solved: http://www.aceconcrete.com/

but I'm working in WP3 beta and I want to use the wp_nav_menu function, as seen here:

http://programming.thematic4you.com/2010/03/how-to-test-wp_nav_menu-with-thematic/

Is there any way that this can be done in WP3?

Thank you!!

This was exactly what I was looking for. It works great showing the current submenu but, I also have a sub submenu or third tier that I would like to show up when current. I'm not sure where to do that. I appreciate your help, time and effort.

I did manage to get the third tier to be horizontal by removing:

sf-navbar li li ul {
	width: 100%;
	}

.sf-navbar li li li {
	width: 100%;
	}

Thanks in advance!

HighWalker-

If it works the way you wanted then great. If you wanted to do this without creating a new header.php in your child theme you could do something like this:

function remove_access($content) {
	remove_action('thematic_header','thematic_access',9);
}
add_action('init', 'remove_access');

function childtheme_access() { ?>

<a href="#content" title="<?php _e('Skip navigation to the content', 'thematic'); ?>"><?php _e('Skip to content', 'thematic'); ?>

 <?php wp_list_pages('depth=2&title_li=&echo=1'); ?>

<?php
}
add_action('thematic_header','childtheme_access',9);
