Hi all,
I have not experienced this happen before and I am not sure if the behaviour has changed in thematic or in WP.

In the Theme Options - Text In Footer section I entered some html (several div's with Ids to apply css to).

However when saving changes the IDs given to the the div tags are stripped out.

ie

<div id='footer_address'>Address stuff</div>

becomes

<div>Address stuff</div>

I'm sure it didn't use to do this.

I realise I can use my own function to replace the content here, but it is annoying that the footer text dialog won't accept IDs on tags.

Using WP 3.4.2 and Thematic 1.0.3.1

Anyone know when this changed?
If it is WP or Thematic?
Can I change the behaviour of the footer text dialog? (ie not stripping the ID attribute from HTML tags)

Cheers,

There is a margin on the h1 in the branding div.

#branding h1 { margin: 0; }

It looks like the Branding/Title/Description/Access have all been gutted, this is kind of not the way to do things with Thematic, you should at the least be using overrides, but to each his own.

Well just remember thematic is not a commercial framework so any help you get should be appreciated ;).

EDIT: I don't think you are using a child theme. Before you do any customization you should create one as per http://codex.wordpress.org/Child_Themes

I am new here and have only used thematic a couple of times to convert or stylize wordpress according to my html site template. I am having a coupl of recurring issues. Not knowing php, I am not sure if i have been going about this all wrong, but here's what I've got;

My current HTML theme http://www.sabrasanchez.com/test

My thematic theme(using child theme) http://www.sabrasanchez.com/blog

1. created child theme added css, js, img,
2. placed html header, footer in corresponding .php files in thematic
3. placed sidebar content in topsidebar.php file

Here are the issues I'm having;

1.The footer is displaying "posted in... links" (cant seem to figure out where to get rid of this, and it appears to be dividing my footer in half?

2. Tried adding sidebar content to text widget, it shows up but the page doesn't flow with it? And it causes the footer to repeat..

3. Appears to be a line / bar appearing at the top of page content looks like it's due to the page title <h2> tag - how do I get rid of this?

4. There is a little house on the navigation bar, how do i get rid of this?

Thanks in advance for any help! I am driving myself crazy trying to figure this out!

I think I have found an error with the childtheme_override_siteinfo() functionality. Specifically in footer-extension.php you have

if (function_exists('childtheme_override_siteinfo'))  {
		function thematic_siteinfo() {
			childtheme_override_siteinfo();
		}
	} else {
	    function thematic_siteinfo() {
        	global $options, $blog_id;
			foreach ($options as $value) {
        		if (get_option( $value['id'] ) === FALSE) {
            		$$value['id'] = $value['std'];
        		} else {
        			if (THEMATIC_MB) {
            			$$value['id'] = get_blog_option( $blog_id, $value['id'] );
					} else {
            			$$value['id'] = get_option( $value['id'] );
  					}
        		}
			}
        	/* footer text set in theme options */
        	echo do_shortcode(__(stripslashes(thematic_footertext($thm_footertext)), 'thematic'));
        }
    	add_action('thematic_footer', 'thematic_siteinfo', 30);
    }

but because add_action('thematic_footer', 'thematic_siteinfo', 30); is inside the option that the user has not defined an override function, it needs to be added to the childtheme_override_siteinfo function. So Helgathevikings example above becomes:

function childtheme_override_siteinfo)(){
  echo "site powered by bacon";
add_action('thematic_footer', 'thematic_siteinfo', 30);
}

or else it does nothing. This is also true of childtheme_override_siteinfoopen() and childtheme_override_siteinfoclose() but I am assuming this is not what you intended.

Thanks!

there's no need for 2 functions, but put everything on a priority between the 2.... sowingseeds says it is 10 and 20, so 15 should work fine.

function kia_footer_div(){ ?>
  <div>
     <a href="#">A link to bacon</a>

add_action('thematic_footer','kia_footer_div',15);

I reckon you could consider putting a division after subsidiary (has priority 10) and before siteinfo (priority 20) through using thematic_footer hook and adding priorities between 11 and 19:

Try something like:

function extra_footer_open(){
echo '<div class="extra_footer">';
}
add_action('thematic_footer','extra_footer_open',11);

function extra_footer_close(){
echo '</div>';
}
add_action('thematic_footer','extra_footer_close',19);

you could also override the thematic_siteinfo() function with your own custom childtheme_override_siteinfo()

I have a client who is currently using Joomla and may be moving to WP (with my desperate urging). If they decide to move, I will be using the Thematic Power Blog and would need to match the Joomla template they want to use. I am trying to figure out what's involved with matching the navigation menu on this template. http://www.ledstrips8.com/led-light-bars-c-38.html

b/c thematic_navigation_below isn't a filter, it is an action. you can tell where filters are available b/c they are marked APPLY_FILTERS

As per ap0019er's initial response, how come the following code wouldn't work for me? (I've since used the suggested code and it works a charm, just so I understand.)

function remove_nav_below() {
}
add_filter('thematic_navigation_below','remove_nav_below', 2);

sorry, don't follow you. can't you just put 1 large background on the body? or #wrapper? perhaps you could create a diagram or screenshot to better explain.

I'm building on Thematic, and I'd like to use a background image for my entire site; header, body, and footer. I'd like to utilize all of the screen real estate, and not just the real estate specified in the thematic dimensions.

Can anyone tell me:

a: what dimensions should I use in the creation of the image?
b: how do I go about implementing use of the image?

Also, I'd settle for being able to use 3 separate images for header, body, and footer as long as they used up all the screen real estate and not just that weird center area that gets inhabited when I use a banner in place of the blog title.

I hope I'm explaining this correctly. Thank you for reading.

huh? the footer only needs to be made sticky for really short posts. if you are having problems w/ long posts then you've borked your HTML markup (not closing something) or you've messed up the default CSS somehow. without a link no one can help you more.

hello.

My site footer is not sticky to the bottom of my posts i.e my posts over-run my background if I publish something long.

Has anyone got a remedy?

Thanks
