I just noticed our calendar page looks all wrong. Default template was applied to the page (I had assigned a special, "full width" template). I restored the full-width template, but the spacing is wrong. Did the theme update change something or reassign a template? Or has somebody else been mucking around in our back end?

Okay I looked into this and somehow effectively running the thematic-child theme while having Twenty-Eleven chosen as the theme in Dashboard-> Appearance. Not sure how this happened but I suspect it has to do with having multiple Wordpress sites installed (I had Twenty Eleven running on another).

Hello I am running a child theme in thematic and try to get a custom page template for a blog page. When a go to create a page (or an old page) there is no dropdown of page templates.

I have placed the template file called blog.php in the thematic-child folder with the php:
/* Template Name: Blog */
above the
get_header
call. I noticed this conflicted with template-page-fullwidth.php template name but realised I was not seeing any template options when creating a page. Anyone had this problem or know where I can look?

Hi sixfootjames,

The template-page-blog.php file is being deprecated in Thematic's upcoming 0.9.8 release and will be removed entirely at some point.

It's recommended that you either configure your wp-admin/settings/reading : "front page" and "posts page" in which case the index.php will be the template used *or* you could create a home.php template in your child theme.

you don't need to use the blog template to show your latest posts. in fact, just as a heads up, that template is being deprecated. if you are on the blog index then thematic generates that from the thematic_index_loop() function in content-extensions.php. there are other loops like thematic_category_loop(), etc. you can create your own loop using the override functionality.

childtheme_override_index_loop(){

  echo "i want bacon in my loop";

}

usually i copy over the contents of the original function and then hack away in my own functions.php

little is available in template-page-blog.php to be edited manually as thematic does everything by filter and action hooks. if you follow the thematic_indexloop() hook into the extensions folder, you'll see the thematic_index_loop is added to that loop. within that function you'll find thematic_content() which is the function that determines how excerpts and full posts are displayed. this allows for crazy-high levels of granular control, but is also confusing to new people.

1. why are you using the blog template? can't you just set your Reading Options? I ask, b/c we're discussing deprecating this template.

2. once you've found thematic_content you'll see that you can filter the thumbnails off completely.

function kia_kill_thumbnails(){
  return FALSE;
}
add_filter('thematic_post_thumbs','kia_kill_thumbnails');

Hey there.

I'm running Neumatic+ (thematic child theme), and I've created a new page using the custom "Blog" template, but I want to edit the way it displays posts a little. I can't seem to find where the template file for this is?

I've opened up "template-page-blog.php", but it doesn't seem to have anything I can edit, mainly to get rid of the post featured image thumbnail.

Thank you for the suggestions, After some reflection I think that jQuery is going to be the best bet - it's just a minor stylistic addition, so it doesn't warrant a full new sidebar - I'd rather keep the original thematic framework there.

I'm building on Thematic, and I'd like to use a background image for my entire site; header, body, and footer. I'd like to utilize all of the screen real estate, and not just the real estate specified in the thematic dimensions.

Can anyone tell me:

a: what dimensions should I use in the creation of the image?
b: how do I go about implementing use of the image?

Also, I'd settle for being able to use 3 separate images for header, body, and footer as long as they used up all the screen real estate and not just that weird center area that gets inhabited when I use a banner in place of the blog title.

I hope I'm explaining this correctly. Thank you for reading.

Hi, I am trying to make a drastically customized homepage layout and in doing so have created a few new homepage asides - my issue is that I want to add some imagery to the sidebar (an image of a circle that gets absolutely positioned top left) and need to put that image in the sidebar unit. Normally I'd use a sidebar template but I'm convinced that there is a better method, maybe a function that I'm unaware of, to accomplish this feat. Any ideas?

like i said before, to get it INSIDE of entry-utility, i think you'll need to copy the thematic_postfooter() function completely to your functions.php and rename it childtheme_override_postfooter() and add

ADDTOANY_SHARE_SAVE_KIT(array($output_later=TRUE))

I actually placed it where I wanted by minimizing the width of the entry utility, changing clear:both to left, and changing the width of the Add to Any and floating it left. I can't seem to get a handle on these functions, hooks, etc. Probably a backwards way to go about it, but I find solace in CSS.

i have come a long way in my year since posting my original response... wherein my answer was incorrect.

unless this plugin offers a function (or a parameter for the ADDTOANY_SHARE_SAVE_KIT() function) that "returns" a value in lieu of "echoing" a value, you cannot add this to the entry-utility via filter.

you're lucky i seem to have too much time on my hands as it turns out that addtoany does have a return parameter. ;)

function childtheme_postfooter($postfooter) {
	if( function_exists('ADDTOANY_SHARE_SAVE_KIT') ) {
		$postfooter = $postfooter . ADDTOANY_SHARE_SAVE_KIT(array($output_later=TRUE));
	}
	return $postfooter;
}
add_filter ('thematic_postfooter', 'childtheme_postfooter');

this doesn't get it INSIDE post-utility however.... might need to hit another filter OR use an override

I am also trying to place the add to any share plugin in my entry utility. Ideas? I don't like it at the bottom of posts because I simply think it would look better if it were in line with my tags, comments etc. Please help!

Dear

I had a quick look at this text band this seems the way to go

I’m currently at my office but tonight or tomorrow I’ll try something like :

If the call is for a single post then
get the author nickname
      If a author template exists for this author use the template
Else
Use the generic single template

Or to lower the resource consumption, as my particular authors are only in one category (“guest stars”)

If the call is for a single post then
Get the category name or ID

If the category name or ID is Guest Stars’s one then

get the author nickname
      If a author template exists for this author use the template
Else
Use the generic single template

By the way I thing we may postpone a little bit our wedding.
Been Europeans theses days might be a.. rockn’roll situation let’s say.
Our good ol’ Europe is collapsing, I'm not sure a European passport will be be a dream in a few months/years....

salut luc! si j'avais su que tu étais français, il me faudrait à reconsidérer ta proposition. j'ai toujours voulu une passport european! :)

if i understand correctly then you want to load a different single-author.php template for single posts by a specific author?

http://www.mihaivalentin.com/wordpress-tutorial-load-the-template-you-want-with-template_redirect/

specifically check out this section "Use a different layout for a certain post inside a certain category". you'd need to adjust for author but the concept should be the same.

it might be better to use locate_template over "include" but i'd have to test that out more to be sure

sidenote- what hook are you targeting for adding that image content to the different page templates? the above suggestion may not be neccessary... can you post the code you are using to try to add an image to the single post?

Hello

I'm looking for an elegant way to link single.php with a author specific template
The context :

My original website (carrington based) : http://velofun.fr
My playground to learn Thematic : http://www.saint-elie.com/testbed
WP 3.3b4 / Thematic latest svn

My website (about leisure / urban cycling) has two kind of authors :
-	a generic one :  me (myself and I)
-	Invited authors (grouped in the “guest stars” category)

What I want to do :

Having a specific presentation for some specific authors whatever the entry is : entry by author (ok) entry by category (ok) entry by post title (not ok)

Current situation
I have a specific presentation for categories, if i click on « Guest Stars » in my menu :
http://www.saint-elie.com/testbed/category/guest-stars/
The specific image /introduction text appear. (category-categorynickname.php ) ok so far
If I choose a specific « guest star », same success :
http://www.saint-elie.com/testbed/category/guest-stars/lovely-bike/

If i click on the author name ; everything is still fine (author-authornickname.php)
http://www.saint-elie.com/testbed/author/lovelybicycle/

But if instead, I click on the post title (single.php):
http://www.saint-elie.com/testbed/2011/04/lovelybike-effet-mary-poppins/

The specific environment disappears. And that’s normal as the template system cannot determine anything based on the url

what I’m failing to do

I’m looking for an elegant way to link a post to an author in a way that if the author has a specific template, the post (single.php) get the same presentation.

Carrington does that automagically, I’m not clear how to do this with Thematic.

Thanks in advance

Luc

you are so going about this the wrong way.

please read the codex on Template Hierarchy... which is geeky wordpress speak for which wordpress template will display what type of content

http://codex.wordpress.org/Template_Hierarchy#Custom_Post_Types_display

basically you can copy index.php, rename it archive-wheels.php and it will automagically show all the wheels posts, since it would be following the correct naming structure outlined in the codex

or if you insist on doing it the 'page-template' way instead of using the built in approach, then you'd do better to copy from the blog template instead of page.php

template-page-blog.php

hope that helps!

I am learning Wordpress and modifying the Themeatic framework, but I am learning as I go.

I have a custom post type called 'wheels'.

I took the page.php file, and renamed it wheels_page.php

I added the page template header.

Now I only want it to display posts only for the post type "wheels".

I added this line to the new page template (I put it just under the "container"):

<div id="container">

		<?php query_posts(array('post_type'=>'wheels')); ?>

			<?php thematic_abovecontent(); ?>

			<div id="content">

I then created a page called "Wheels" and used wheels_page as the template.

The PROBLEM is that when I open the page, it only shows one post, even though there are 6 post in "wheels".

Clearly I am not in the loop, but I have no idea where to find it, let alone how to make it a working page template.

Can someone help me?
