Hi!

I'm really new to thematic, so bear with me:

I'd like to add an extra widget area inside the mail div and before the container div. I'd like to add header images there.

But how can I do this?

Thanks.

This is a link to a screenshot http://www.jamandcheese.be/dump/innovative.jpg
How do I put logo-image before blog-title? Thanks...

Hey folks,

Take a look at my company’s new responsive design website www.dronamobile.com, you would be able to push and pull the browser window to test the "responsiveness" of this website. When I reduce the width of the browser, everything just flows "under" the browser frame and is cut off, just like the web content. Do explore and share your feedback about it...

Well, since you bumped the thread....

I've borrowed half of this page for my current site and have used this bit of code to generate the "Who Is" section.

----------------------------------------
LET'S GET STARTED ON AN UPDATE... NOW
----------------------------------------

Hello All -

I wanted to take a moment to reply to the excellent outline SixFootJames posted -- 2 months ago -- and to which no-one has stepped up for a reply. The short answer, which I will elaborate on, is that no-one is stepping forward, so in the best spirit of open source... it's up to us.

Now, first I will tell you my background. My company Webdirexion LLC (formerly WebFadds), has built commercial child themes with Thematic for around 3 years. We owe a debt of gratitude to the originators (Thanks again Ian and Chris), and loyal supporters who help people here on this board (Gene, Kathy and others), so we also built the site http://ThematicMondo.com (back from a hack attack) with references, tutorials, and a gallery of themes created with Thematic. This site aims to support the community via training, news, and recognition of both leaders and great child themes. Below, I will state my commitment to a Thematic upgrade.

SPECIFIC REPLIES TO SIXFOOTJAMES SUGGESTIONS:

1. Decide where the new home of Thematic is going to be. (I see talks of thematic4you.com becoming the permanent home, is that finalised?)
--> That was an older suggestion, then Gene had a new idea for a home, but Gene has dropped off the radar. I will donate hosting space, if needed. I suggest we post suggested sites, then vote as a community and move, move MOVE.

2. Install open source project management software on that domain.
--> Great. I assume you will help with that James? I will also donate a project manager we use for our company projects if you like -- see: http://teamworkpm.com

--> The new site can have three basic links on the homepage to get started: Thematic Learning (wiki, tutorials) | Thematic Help & Discussion | Thematic PROJECT (the project manager, SVN, and Milestone Calendar). I will help build this site, if the community wishes.

3. Assign someone with strong project management skills to the task of delegation.
--> James? I can also help with communication of same.

4. Identify all the issues/tasks we currently have in the online project management tool.
--> Note that there is an SVN repository for the project now, and Ian, Gene, and I believe Chris hold the keys. Let's set up the team, pick the lead programmer and project manager and get going.

5. Identify contributors strengths and weaknesses.
--> We have a number here, and I will also bring at least one PHP programmer that has skills better than my own to the project. We CAN do this.

6. Assign contributors to these different tasks in order of priority.
--> The more I read how you think about this, James, I would nominate you for project manager.

7. Set up milestones for when these tasks will be completed given the amount of resources available
--> I use a paid Project Management software that is excellent for our company projects... http://teamworkpm.com. I know you said "open source" for same, James, but I am willing to donate a project in this software to get going, keep it on track, and GET IT DONE (can you tell I am anxious too?)

COMMITTERS NEEDED:

I'm committed, and a number of others are. But I am not a scratch PHP programmer. We need a leader who will commit to 3-6 months work for this.

Here is my commitment to the community:

    * I will help with CSS programming
* I will help facilitate using a screenshare/conference call app I have
* I will continue to write tutorials
* I will publish dates, and help communicate on the boards
* I will bring experienced programmers to also help
* I will continue to publish support tutorials, recognize leaders, and show site examples at http://ThematicMondo.com
* I will help build and host the new Thematic site

I look forward to working with you all to make this happen soon.

CONSIDER THIS A CALL FOR LEAD PHP PROGRAMMER FOR THEMATIC. If more than one replies, we can vote as a community with guidance from Ian, Chris, and Gene (if they are still interested).

Cheers -
Scott

Thanks Lance - I was having the same issue (both is_home() and is_front_page() were showing nada) and that fixed it up nicely. Adding a reset seems to kick widget logic into action on the homepage again.

and restrict the output to show ONLY the children of the current category. Is there some kind of exclude that I can use? Or can I css "display none" on that top element without making the lower elements disappear as well?

You can see the site developing at http://seacliffmm.com/prod/indigest/admin/?cat=5648. Be advised that I'm having server issues, so some parts might look messed up (especially the main nav.) Tech support is working on it.

you are mixing {} and if: endif; syntax.

if you use { to open an if statement, close it with a }

if you use if: to open and if statement, close it with endif;

so in the case above, change

if( is_category() ) :

to

Greetings--

I am trying to add a dynamic sub-menu above the content. The menu would only show sub categories within a category when a user was in that category.

See the code I'm trying below, derived from this forum and the WP codex:

// Add category Sub-menus above content on category and child pages

function custom_childtheme_catmenus(){
	if( is_category() ) :
$this_cat_id = get_query_var('cat');?>

<div id="category-sub-menu">
<ul class="cat-menu">
<?php wp_list_categories('child_of=' . $this_cat_id); ?>
</ul>

</div><!-- end custom child category menu -->

<?php }}

add_action('thematic_abovecontent','custom_childtheme_catmenus');

I keep getting an error flag at the line

<?php }}

I'm sure it's something stupid, like leaving out a requisite } or ; character. My syntax is not that good.

Any help would be appreciated.

i should reinsert my brain from time to time. that's a neat trick. actually, middlesister has convinced me that this bit of code is "doing it wrong"... in the sense that it is hard-coding things into doc-title that seo plugins then have to bludgeon to get out of there.... or can't at all.

a better approach might be

<title><?php wp_title( '|', true, 'right' ); ?></title>

and then filter in the rest via the wp_title filter that lives inside the wp_title function.

this code is automatically added via thematic_doctitle() in the default header.php. so there is no need to manually include it in a child header.php

I think you can create new function name childtheme_override_doctitle() in your functions.php then put your code into that.

@ScottNix: Yes, I'm using a Thematic child theme. That snippet is being used successfully in my child theme's header.php file ... I'm just trying to eliminate all child theme files except for style.css and functions.php, and the page-titling automation this snippet provides is the only thing keeping me from doing that.

Am I understanding you correctly that I could do something to an extensions file in my child theme? What's that?

Hmm, I know this is going to come up. Are you using a Thematic Child Theme? It would take some serious butchering to work this into a child theme considering all the relevant information for titles is handled in the extensions file. :/

There is something else going on here, more to fix than just converting this to a functions.php snippet.

Apologies if this topic is covered in this forum; I searched but couldn't find anything relevant.

I'm using the code below to customize page titles, but have only figured out how to make it work placed in my child theme's header.php file. Is it possible to move this code out of that header file and put it in my functions.php? If so, would you be so kind as to provide the syntax that I may copy and paste? Thanks in advance for your attention to this issue.

<title><?php
	/*
	 * Print the <title> tag based on what is being viewed.
	 */
	global $page, $paged;

	wp_title( '|', true, 'right' );

	// Add the blog name.
	bloginfo( 'name' );

	// Add the blog description for the home/front page.
	$site_description = get_bloginfo( 'description', 'display' );
	if ( $site_description && ( is_home() || is_front_page() ) )
		echo " | $site_description";

	// Add a page number if necessary:
	if ( $paged >= 2 || $page >= 2 )
		echo ' | ' . sprintf( __( 'Page %s', 'twentyten' ), max( $paged, $page ) );
