Before going on to the problem, check out the site mockup I'm working from here: </p> <p><a href="http://dl.dropbox.com/u/11664192/ark-floor-mockup-2.jpg" rel="nofollow">http://dl.dropbox.com/u/11664192/ark-floor-mockup-2.jpg</a></p> <p>As you can see in that image, the layout is 3 columns, so I'm using the 3 column layout in Thematic via the sidebars. However, the featured/splash image is intend to take up the width of two columns, and that's a confusing thing to fit into to a mixture of the main text and the sidebar. </p> <p>I have tried solving this via css, but I'm still confused about where to insert the div tags necessary to pull that off. This first blog is already working and I managed to exclude the category, but my problem is related to creating the link to the second blog in the menu. I want that second link to take me to a blog page that displays only 1 category, the one that is excluded in the other blog.</p> <p>The solution I am using now for the second blog is a plugin called <strong>Page Links To</strong> that basically creates a page that has a redirect to ?cat=3 and therefore takes me to the post overview for just this category. The problem with this is that the tab in the menu never has an "active" state when it is clicked.
