<description>&#60;p&#62;that is probably because you are using the main thematic core files, start with picking and applying a child theme. Your widths are being set with 2c-r-fixed.css. This is a 2 column layout. you can set them to meet your preferences by adding width: 1080px to the containers in style.css

&#60;p&#62;Those should give you an idea what your theme default is then also do a find using default width to  see if it shows up anywhere else.
