Helga: that is more in line with what I am looking for. I'll give it a go for this redesign.

I'm a big fan of having multiple ways to access info and I'd rather users be able to just go to the page (or in my case release) that they want from the main page without having to go to an intermediary page first.

i'd have to agree w/ you that i am not a fan of 'clicking' to reveal the sub-menu- i think that most everyone expects hover. while i don't have the solution, it must be possible (maybe even using a different jquery plugin) to have the menu reveal on hover.

you'd also do well to have some sort of symbol/arrow to indicate that there is a submenu- that way people know to roll over

the mega menu by javakit that is used in the above example mentions activation on click versus hover, but i don't have it available to test and the docu isn't super clear.

a quick google search reveals other options, such as:
http://www.geektantra.com/2010/05/jquery-megamenu-2/ (demo hovers)

but i like the first example for 1. using 3.0 menus and 2. using thematic! :)

@Jonny Janeiro: Thanks! I have made the padding smaller but yes that's a temporary fix. Right now the menu has all the releases until the end of the year so I have a bit of time :)

@helga: That is looking promising. My only issue at the moment is with the second example posted in your link:

http://contemporacorner.com/

When you click on a menu item that doesn't have a sub menu, you go to that link. This is not really the best UI. If you could make it so that the submenu comes up on hover that would make sense. Thus, if no menu comes up on hover then there is no submenu. The way it is now is a bit confusing.

Anyway thanks for the tip - if the hover thing is possible I may use this for a redesign.

i dont think there is an easy solution. what about integrating a jquery mega menu?

http://justaguydesign.com/2010/04/megamenus-redux/

ah, i see. this is going to be a bigger list over time. so making text smaller will only postpone the problem.
perhaps it doesn't need the sub menu at all.

hey josh,
i see the problem. have no solution other than maybe make the font and padding smaller for sub menus.
by the way, your site looks really good. clear, bright and easy to navigate. some nice touches. good work sir

Hi,

I have a list of pages in a menu that goes down below the bottom of the screen but there is no way for someone to know this unless they scroll down. Is there a way to have a small arrow indicator at the bottom to show that there are more items below?

You can see this here:

http://www.vizualrecords.com/

go under Store > Music Downloads and you will see what I mean.

I know I could (and should) probably reorganize this but that would mean updating a lot of links.

Thanks!

Joshua
