hello helgatheviking,
I'm trying to get timthumb working with youtube, too; can you share your solution?

Thanks in advance :-)

I'm not all that familiar with Justin Tadlock's plug-in, but it looks like it defaults to the WordPress native featured image functionality whenever possible (if you set a post thumbnail for instance), and then goes to a second method if that's not there. That seems like the most elegant way to do it.

I know he has that functionality built into Hybrid, so you may want to look at how he included it in that framework.

Anybody have any opinions on using timthumb to scrape thumbnails out of a post versus using get-the-image or even the new WP2.0 thumbnail feature?

get-the-image and the WP feature let you select which image you'd like.. even if that image is not in the post.

get-the-image is back-compatible for anybody who has a lot of thumbs in custom fields. not an issue for me right now.

timthumb is totally automated and the blogger doesn't have to think about it at all. trouble w/ automation is then you lose some control.. and you are pretty much stuck w/ the first image. though i have adapted:

http://hardiannazief.com/12/create-thumbnail-from-offsite-image-using-timthumb-beta

to find the youtube thumbnail on an embedded video. so that makes it a bit cooler.

i'm just curious to hear if anyone has any opinions... any considerations I am overlooking?
