That was very comprehensive, Jonny. Thanks!

It really helped me "wrap my head around" this framework stuff and how to best put it at use. It appears I've found what I was looking for.

All the best.

you would be hacking Thematic therefore, not much point using it as a framework.

as for 'embed' child theme. theres probably a way to achieve this. maybe. but i can't see why? calling the theme from thematic functions would mean the child theme would break when updating newer versions.

end user only has to activate the child theme in admin. (they dont have to activate Thematic). one click. you can package the latest version of thematic with your theme so they drop both folders over. future stable updates for thematic can then be done via their admin.

promote your theme and the styling, functions, effort you have put in.
promote Thematic and the solid backbone its created on. thats a plus that shouldn't be seen as complicating things.

i feel a framework (and community) is better than relying on one person maintaining the core features of their theme and implementing new wordpress features.

also, as for theme options. Devin created a theme for this that you can poke around and build upon.
http://wptheming.com/2010/04/thematic-options-1-1-released/

hope this is of any use

Hi.
I'm beginning WordPress development and have been searching for the right framework to embrace. So far Thematic looks really good, all I need is just a few clarifications:

* Is it possible to use Thematic without using the "child concept"? Can I make a theme based on Thematic (with theme options) and nothing else?

* Is is possible to "embed" a child theme - to auto-activate it? That way the child concept would be seamless for the end user...

Thanx!
