This is an interesting one for me. I haven't ever seen a menu do this.
My top horizontal menu doubles over in IE 7 and 8. I haven't checked 9. In "Compatibility Mode" it fixes the issue but I lose other key elements of my design.

You may want to run your site through the W3C Html Validator, you will see a few simple nesting errors. I imagine they are what is causing the problem.
Also, you have duplicate canonical tags and should think about using sprites for the background/hover buttons, noticed those while poking around. Nice job on the site though, a healthy improvement in aesthetics over the previous.
