heyhi all. On my site http://killtheliterate.com there is a page that i would like to display in gallery like fashion, and i would love to avoid a weird plugin. is there a way to adopt the "featured content" thing from thematic Gallery theme and instert it into my childtheme?

I'm not exactly clear on what you're trying to do, so I apologize if I'm misunderstanding. However, if you're trying to get your images on that page into a grid, you can start by adding float: left; to the .entry-content img class.
