I want to change the value of [wp-link] to point to the wordpress website for a specific country. how would I do this?
This is how I am working it right now: I tried to delete everything in thm_footertext (thematic options), but the default comes back every time I hit save. So I left a single space in there, and re-wrote the entire contents of thm_footertext via the thematic_footertext filter.

Try the following code in your child theme's functions.php:
function remove_wp_link() {
remove_shortcode('wp-link');
add_shortcode('wp-link', 'child_wp_link');
}
add_action('init', 'remove_wp_link');
function child_wp_link() {
return '<a class="wp-link" href="http://www.wupperpiraten.de/" title="WordPress" rel="generator">WordPress</a>';
}Normally defining a shortcode tag for a second time should overwrite the first definition but this didn't work.
