Hello Guys,

I don't know if this question is an "offtopic" but I'm looking for a wordpress theme that shows 2 blog columns like the link below.

I don't know if thematic can do this, but probably I can find a ready to use theme with this caracteristics, but I can't find it on the web cause I don't know the right keywords to search for. Since I've always found great feedback from this community, maybe someone out there can help me out.

Hello Helga,

thank you for the tip, but I think it still doesn't work for me. I think I didn't explained very well what I'm looking for. Here it goes.
I will start a blog with my grilfriend, where both of us will post, on separate columns. From my close to none experience with web development, I thought that I would need 2 columns that some kind of category based separation between the 2 post columns, as it is on teh link I posted above. If anyone have any clues about a theme, a code, or another forum that I could look for it, I'd be very happy. Thanks in advance.

Ok, I understand a bit better now. Unfortunately I still don't have a solution for you, but it sounds like you would need 2 loops: one for each author/category or however you mean to distinguish them.

i really dont think you'll find a theme that already does that as standard.

helga is right, you'd need two category loops for home page
the link you posted...
i believe it uses two categories only, for e.g male and female.
the rest is posts and tags.

css style for each category. could possibly style by author.
by the looks of the site, your sidebar would need conditional tags.
it also splits the monthly archives for each category and seems to be using jquery to assist this.

you can search snippets throughout the forum to cover some of the above (and our dear friend google).

but it didn't work properly. It can't find the 2nd author's posts. And this theme is not greatly crafted, from what I could notice.

the topic is pretty old. anyway. i used Nazief's php script for a nice 2-col content layout. but there is a problem: the posts won't align vertically, and if, then they do as they like and i cannot convince them otherwise.
if the content of the post in the right col is shorter than the one in the left, the next pair (2+3 -- they count l/r 1,2/3,4 etc.) will align top--not as wished 2+4 with the defined vert. distance.
it is a simple phenomenon but tends a bit to confusion when explaining. so i have put 2 demo images on the server to demonstrate. they are here: http://public.maki-design.com/
any help would very much be appreciated.

You could try downloading query posts - drop this into two widget areas (e.g. subsidiary 1 and 2 - or create your own widget areas in the #content area) - and display a different category in each.

thanks butters but i want a nice and clean php solution :) and pl excuse me for coming back so late.
the problem has not been resolved--only by making the right col longer than the left and tricking with css where for both cols floating and clearing needs to be defined.
but again, thanks much!

i am not 100% clear on your problem, but try to give each article div a height. that should make them line up vertically. i'd make a suggestion but you didn't provide a live link.

also note that Nazief's tutorial should produce

article 1 article 2
article 3 article 4

and so on.... which isn't what the OP wanted waaaay back when this post was started.

i posted 2 images on the link given (i did give a link :) which exemplify the problem.
if you want to take a look at the page (as it is: in a mess) go portugal-remixed.com and take "frank" & "gUest1". at this moment it's good to see: col 3+4 align top when 4 should actually move up to 2--which it does when col 2 is higher than col 1 (which you could see on the screenshots on maki.

i saw your images, but i can't use dev tools on an image, so it only half counts. ;)

i can't do much to help without going through the whole process of implementing all your code locally.

did you try fixing a height as i suggested?

basically it is not much of a drama. it's just because ...
what i wondered about is that the cols do the job when the post of the right col is higher than the left. if that relation remains everything is well and fine.
the other thing is that Nazief used the excerpts to keep the cols in line. i don't. i'll go with "more" because i hate to interrupt a sentence. but meaning also, that the hight difference will never be exorbitant.
i had a different question a couple minutes ago, conc. the moving of the post meta. craw offered a very nice and simple piece of code there, which i took (post meta is now above the title), but unfortunately it shouldn't be _there_. did you go to the site? you would see what i mean.

i'm pretty sure the problem has to do with floats. you could also insert an extra div after every 2nd article.

article 1 article 2
div - clear both
article 3 article 4

that should get 3 and 4 lined up no matter whether article 1 or 2 is longer.

i can imagine how stressy (and maybe sometimes enerving?) that is to dive into endless problems of all sizes and qualities. so, thank's a lot for your time and your help Kathy.
i keep fiddling some more along the lines of your advice, but css wise i actually went already through all the possibilities (i guess). just to clear this one up: i do NOT want to align the cols _horizontally_ but keep the same distance of 20px _vertically_ no matter their height. horizontally they can always be forced to flip in line.

I don't think there is a pure CSS solution for this. You probably should be looking to some kind of script to handle this problem, something like http://masonry.desandro.com may help. There are actually a bunch more scripts out there too, this is something that a lot of people have struggled with.

sure thing. i apparently didn't understand exactly what you wanted, but i agree w/ scott.... i'm not sure you can do what you are attempting via css. Isotope is another script that could help.
