How to add custom template?

Hello,

setting up a site with a child theme based on Thematic, which goes pretty well.

I would like to use a different template for the homepage, but can't figure out how to create and add the template...

I have found the 'page.php' which generates the pages, I can modify this and save as 'homepage.php', but then how do I use it?

If I open a page in the WP admin, I can only choose 'default template', 'archive page' and 'links page'...

Any help is greatly appreciated!

make sure you add
```
<?php /* Template Name: New Template Name
*/ ?>
```
at the very top of your homepage.php file. Then you should have it as an option in the WP admin
