I wanted to try Sugar Cane which uses Thematic. I uploaded both directories and am demoing Sugar Cane by using a theme switcher; I don't want to activate it till I have it customized. However, I just see the main column and no sidebars whatsoever. You can view it at 3till7.net/?wptheme=Sugar Cane. I expected to see some kind of default sidebar with maybe all my pages listed, categories, etc., but instead I get nothing. What's up with this? How can I add a sidebar?

Hi,
this might not work if your base theme is not Thematic or a Thematic child theme.

I'm not sure what you mean by base theme. I'm using Sugar Cane which is described as being a Thematic child theme.

Is Sugar Cane your active theme right now?

That's the thing, I don't want to make it the active theme on my web site until I have it looking the way I want. Typically when I design a theme, I use a Wordpress theme switcher plugin to view the particular theme I'm modifying. That way, my visitors aren't subjected to me tinkering around with CSS and whatnot. :) So no, the selected Wordpress theme is not Sugar Cane.

What is your active theme?

A theme I designed myself; it doesn't use Thematic. I might end up activating the Sugar Cane theme anyway because it looks so nice out of the box, even with all my CSS tinkering.

I think that this is the reason for the missing sidebars. Sugar Cane will get the sidebars from your theme and it / Thematic can't handle these sidebars.
