I'm pulling my hair out because I can't seem to get the Pages widget to be available.
If I have no widgets in the Primary and Secondary Asides then the Pages widget is there along with Search, Categories, Archive, Blogroll, RSS feeds and Meta as the standard widgets.
If I put any widget in the Secondary Aside, it removes the standard widgets (Blogroll, RSS and Meta) and those widgets become available to put elsewhere. This makes sense.
However, if I do the same for the Primary Aside, I can make the standard widgets disappear, but the Pages and Search widgets do not become available for me to place anywhere. They are always gone.
In my Primary Aside I want just Search and Pages (not categories), but I'm having no luck in finding out how to do this.
I am working through this on a child theme, but I switched to just the Thematic 0.8 theme and found the same issues.
[Also, as a side note, "Asides" is a confusing term for what should be "Widget Area." The Wordpress community has pretty much settled on "Asides" as being a term for a type of post that isn't a traditional blog post but instead a link with a little commentary to another post. I think this nomenclature could be less confusing if it was changed to something describing what it does, namely insert an area for Widgets to be loaded, like "Widgetized Area" or something.]
