I'm starting on a redesign and I've made a couple basic block diagrams. Since I've already done a few child themes using Thematic and it's familiar to me, I'd like to stick with it.
I have a few questions before I dive in further:
Are the designs I've laid out possible to create with Thematic (using a child theme)?
Is there anything structurally limiting about Thematic that would make these layouts inherently difficult?
Is there a better way to accomplish what I want? (even not using the Thematic framework)

Granted these are throwing out much of the basic structure that's built in to Thematic but it seems like this is all doable. The little "w" on some blocks refer to widget areas. The colors don't have any particular meaning.
These are done over a 960px/12 column grid system. The diagrams were laid out in Illustrator (I find OmniGraffle frustrating to draw with :).
