I wanted to check my understanding is correct. If replace an old website with Thematic and my child theme is there a way to ensure that the newly created website retains it's search engine ranking with google and co?
I understand one way to retain your google ranking is to install a redirection plugin so that people visiting the old webpage are redirected to a new page via the redirection plugin:
www.example/about.html (old address)
www.example/about (new address)
My question is I understand that you need to redirect the old page to the new for Google and co to maintain you page ranking. But when you want to delete the old pages www.example/about.html will that then lose your google and search engine ranking or do you need to keep the old pages on to maintain the google ranking and trust the old pages built up?
