Where to start with the child theme?

I want to install thematic and customize a child theme, but I am confused as to where I start. Should I be using the wiki? Does it have everything I need?

I really am a beginner, but am usually okay once I get past the start.

upload thematic theme to your theme directory

and then follow this tutorial http://op111.net/53

Howdy-

The wiki is a good place to get the gist of how your child theme is to designed to interact with the framework. The themeshaper blog has covered a lot of the basics of WordPress and themeing so spend some time looking around there. Study the documentation and tutorials and you'll get it all sorted out.

Thank you all for the links and information. You've given me a lot to read and I'm diving into it head first. The whole child theme is starting to make sense to me, so that helps a lot already.
