I'm new here and starting up my own blog ! I know you hear this all the time =:)
I love the themes this team has created, but I would like to change it from a white background to a different color background
Could any one assist me with this or point me in the right direction ?

you're going to need to learn about CSS, there is a ton of info available via basic google search. i would also recommend that you http://www.getfirebug.com it is a firefox extension that lets you examine the CSS properties of elements.
all CSS changes occur in your style.css
you'll want to add
body {
background: #333333;
}
or the appropriate hexadecimal code for the color you want

do I change this in the style.css ? I'm not able to see any background commands in here at the moment.

as i said in my first post, it goes in style.css. there may not be any existing rules for body, just add the whole thing.
