Is The WordPress.com Theme Marketplace On It’s Way?

Now that the WordPress themes viewer has been revamped, become the WordPress Theme Directory, and is pleasantly subverting things in the background of your upload, is The WordPress.com Theme Marketplace far behind? I’ve always thought the two would go hand in hand.

    I haven’t been following the debate, but .org doesn’t sell anything as of now, so there’s not really any precedent. And isn’t there a strong camp within that community who feel paid code opposes the spirit of WP?

    I mean.. if I’m wrong (like I said I could be missing out on a lot of discourse; or possibly missed out on some premium plugins hidden in /extend already?) please do fill me in…

    Check out the linked article on Matt’s blog. The theme marketplace would be an additional service for the dot com version of WordPress. Some people love the idea. Some people hate it.
