I’ve gone and redesigned ThemeShaper with a WordPress Child Theme called Hanzo based on Thematic. Perhaps it’s the summer sun that’s eating at my brain but I haven’t fully tested this layout in IE7 (I’ve stopped caring about IE6). Consequently, things are probably broken. If you spot something weird, let me know. If you know how to fix the weirdness you’ve spotted, even better. More importantly, let me know what you think.

Great work Ian. Even though I adored the older version, I still like this one. The header is pretty sweet with that pain splat and the logo is kickass. Typography is great, comments field is sweet, but I’d like to see something done with the footer :)
Looks good, Ian! I like the explosion of red ink dust. And the bold contrast of how the dark header goes immediately to a white background.
What typeface is the small serif (italics)?
@Michael, I had two big, fat, complex, footer designs … and ultimately gave them up. I felt like I was making a cool footer for it’s own sake. Which is, ironically, not at all cool.
@David, Georgia. I think I love Georgia. I’ve even used it for large outdoor display work. Text figures, readability, Matthew Carter. I’ve got Georgia on my mind.
Thanks for the feedback!
Great work, Ian. I love what you’ve done here, and I am really excited to give Thematic a whirl.
Can I hire you to do some design work? :)
Thanks, Kevin. Let me know how Thematic works out for you.
Looks excellent, Ian. Feels good to ditch IE6 altogether doesn’t it (at least for non-paying projects)?
You can’t imagine, Darren. Oh, wait. I’m sure you can. Anyway, IE6, I’m focusing a white-hot beam of hate at you. Capital H, Hate.
Er, excuse me. Uh, thanks, Darren.
It’s funny, on my latest project, I actually had less trouble with IE6 than IE7. Either way, both were ridiculously annoying and I wish more designers would push towards not supporting them.
Go, Ian, go!
I really liked this, I think it’s better than the previous layout you had.
When it comes to IE6, it is kind of wierd to design for an old outdated browser, isn’t it? I mean, with do not check layouts in Firefox 1 and Opera 5, do we?
Lovely theme! Simple, yet beautiful. Great work!
@Kristin, Ah, but Firefox and Opera users tend to upgrade. IE users tend to curse and rail.
Thanks Wesley and Kristin.
Really like the re-align, Ian. Especially that brush in the header.
One thought: the comments list looks like a hole has been cut in the site to reveal a different site behind, which then displays the comments. Not necessarily a bad thing, but they somehow look displaced from the site itself.
I struggled with this for a while and I sorta agree. It may change in the next few weeks with a slight sub-realign.
Thanks for the feedback, Elliot.
Great design, although I can’t really remember the old design. I like the georgia type, your readability is great because of the increased line height. I would change the header text at the sidebar to a larger type and/or also serif. Like the rounded corners of the comment boxes. Congrats on the re-design. btw ff3.0 looks great.
Thanks for the quick review, Sander. Speaking of redesigns, yours is amazing.
Looks hot, man. You are all over the typography these days, which I totally dig. Keep bangin’ out the quality work!
I’ve been out of the loop the last few days and missed your big redesign!
I did like the footer you had in the test run, but if you don’t have anything to put there, I guess it’s kind of useless.
You now officially have the coolest header ever.
Overall, it’s very well done. It does feel good to chuck all cares for IE6 out of the window.
Hey, it’s Chris Pearson! Thanks, Chris. I appreciate you stopping by and taking a look at the digs. Cheers.
Thanks, Justin! All modesty aside, I do really like the header. And no worries about being out of the loop. I can only assume you’ve been working on something really cool and/or eating lots of Korean food.
